Gaycities is currently taking votes for the most active gayborhood in the United States and Worldwide. This is the worst listing we have seen and they could not be more wrong. Have they traveled since the pandemic? The cities include:

  • Houston’s Montrose – “Everything’s bigger in Texas including its gay neighborhood”
  • Zona Rosa in Mexico City – LGBTQ Friendly neighborhood in the world’s largest city
  • Hillcrest in San Diego – “Laid back vibes and sunshine all year round”
  • Castro in San Francisco – “Epicenter of west coast gay life”. One of the best times to go is for Folsom’s fetish dance parties but other than pride it really doesn’t have the scene we once knew. West Hollywood and DTLA have more gay nightlife than the Castro but did not make it to the list for some reason.
  • Schöneberg – “World-class historic neighborhood with a dark side”
  • Northalsted – aka Boystown Mid-western gay metropolis
  • Hell’s Kitchen – “reigning queen of NYC gay nightlife” This is not really true anymore since many of the parties have moved to Brooklyn making things more spread out than it was before the pandemic.
  • Midtown Atlanta -while Midtown is one of the most beautiful LGBTQ neighborhoods near a breathtaking park in the country the scene itself is more spread out now. They haven’t had pride in two years because of the pandemic while clubs have closed down. The larger clubs are near Cheshire bridge and another on the other side of downtown called Future.
  • Southbeach Miami – “Golden tans and non-stop nightlife”. They really mentioned Sobe without mentioning Ft. Lauderdale that has 10x gayer presence and far more things to do for the gays in the best gayborhood in the country known as Wilton Manors. Nothing tops it. Southbeach has NO big gay clubs anymore they just have Twist and Score that is open here and there although they do have a gay hotel or two. Compare that to Wilton Manors with dozens of gay bnb’s, bars, a mega-club called Manor and three stripper venues. Not to mention the Eagle with a dark-room in the back.

A few notable neighborhoods that did not make it to the list were Oaklawn in Dallas that has a huge nightlife, Austin 4th street that has more dance floor space than Houston’s gay nightlife since the pandemic. Houston has really fell behind with the closing of the biggest gay bars and seems to only focus on small bars such as JR’s.

Denver’s Capitol Hill area and Seattle’s Capitol Hill were also not mentioned on the list. Denver has one of the hottest gay scenes you could imagine even when it is bitter cold outside. They have a stripper bar, Charlie’s which is always packed, Track’s which is a mega-club and much more including a few bathhouses.

Two huge misses on the list include Soho in the United Kingdom which is home to many pubs, eateries, gay fetish and underwear stores, and near the largest gay club to exist in the world. They also missed out on Ybor in Tampa that is close to the most beautiful riverwalk, Southern Nights club, Bradley’s club/bar, and even a goth church.

Other rainbow neighbourhoods in Berlin not to be overlooked include its neighbour Kreuzberg, a quarter famous for Café Sundström and the SchwuZ nightclub just behind it. There are also shops along the Bergmannstraße as well as live music venues where LGBTI* citizens and visitors meet and have fun. The Mitte neighbourhood also has pockets of LGBTI* hotspots including Weinbergpark.
